Product Details

The SubZero model first appeared back with the XR Pro driver back in 2016. Promising the golfer lower spin numbers than the regular driver it also came with a tradeoff of being less forgiving. Shots out of the middle of the club performed amazingly well but shots that weren’t quite as well struck did see unwanted drops in performance. The same was true of the next two models of Callaway drivers with the Great Big Bertha Epic and Rogue having the same issues.

The Callaway Epic Flash SubZero driver is the first low spin head they have produced that is just as forgiving as the higher spin version which is a massive step forwards for high spin players that miss the middle of the club a little more often than they would like. Part of this extra forgiveness stems from the new Flash Face which is the first time Artificial Intelligence has been used to help design a golf club.

At Address the SubZero is the more compact of the two heads in the Epic Flash range and looks extremely powerful behind the ball and the crown looks excellent with the way it fades from black at the front into Carbon at the back. There is a weight track at the back of the head to optimise the ball flight for either a fade or draw depending on your preference and requirements.

Upon impact the Epic Flash SubZero produces a loud reassuring thud which feels solid and provides the golfer with ample feedback on strike. The spin numbers on the Epic Flash SubZero are extremely impressive and offers in the region of three or four hundred less spin than the standard head. This allows golfers to achieve the much talked about rainbow flight, with a high launch then flattening out to provide both maximum carry and roll. In independent testing the Epic Flash SZ has consistently been the lowest spinning driver on the market.

The Epic Flash was universally adopted by all the Callaway Staff on all major professional golf tours with the majority of tour players choosing the SZ version. Despite being easier to hit than its predecessors the low spin characteristics are slightly more suited to those players that have a reasonably fast swing speed.

If you are looking for a new driver and you want to hit low spinning bombs then the Epic Flash would be a fantastic choice. From a purely performance standpoint there is very little to touch it on the market at this time.

  • Low launch, low spin head for extreme distance
  • Movable weight track for ball flight optimisation
  • Compact tour proven shape
  • A.I designed Flash Face for incredible ball speeds
