Cobra’s innovative MIM (Metal Injection Moulding) process recently debuted in their superb new golf wedge range and the release of the Cobra KING Tour MIM Irons sees it being applied in the construction of a set of irons for the first time. Cobra felt that traditional club making techniques were stifling their creative powers and so created MIM to allow complete control of how they wanted a club to look and feel. Anyone that has tried MIM before in a Cobra wedge will vouch for the incredible feel that this new process creates at impact and it could be argued that it feels even softer than a standard carbon forging.
The Cobra KING Tour MIM Golf Irons are classified as a players iron and have a profile that better players will absolutely love. It has a small cavity back, thin top line, minimal offset and is a beautiful looking club when placed behind the ball at address. When the clubs are resting in a golf bag the amount of technology used to create these clubs is clearly visible.
When struck out of the middle these irons do feel superb and Cobra’s claims of it ‘feeling softer than a forged iron’ will be agreed with by many. The ball flight produced is beautifully high and penetrating and distances are long but extremely consistent. Perhaps the most surprising element with the Tour MIM irons is how well they perform on off centre hits with only a small loss of distance on shots struck off centre. A high-density tungsten toe weight positions the CG directly behind the sweet-spot and brings a huge amount of resistance to twisting on off centre hits.
There is also a TPU insert at the back of the head which dampens impact vibrations and softens the feel of the club still further. The Cobra KING Tour MIM Golf Irons come with the Cobra Connect system fitted as standard and combined with the Arrcos powered smart grips allow for the golfer to keep detailed stats on all their shots. It is then possible to easily highlight strengths and weaknesses when analysed through the Cobra Connect app and will clearly show what areas needs work.
