A New Age Of Golfing Fashion?

The golfing world is going through what some might consider an identity metamorphosis, inspired by the way in which people are expressing themselves through the clothing that they wear on course or at the range, which is becoming much more varied and diverse. The ever expanding popularity and appreciation for golf as a sport and hobby means that new eyes are constantly brought to game and naturally along with that are new ideals and a fresh perspectives on what needs to be brought up to date with the times.

Long gone are they days in which tweed outfits, worn purely for their functionality in protecting against the elements, were an essential part of the game we all love and enjoy. Admittedly, wooden clubs were also the norm back then so its safe to say its not just the fashion which has evolved. Golfing fashion in general has definitely gone through a few iconic cycles, whether it be the long stockings, flat caps and neck ties of the 1920's or the burst of colour and patterned garments which infested televised golf in 1970's. Many do consider some of the clothing constraints of recent times to be seen as somewhat draconic and outdated, leaving the game of golf unappealing to certain demographics and age groups, however, the winds of change do seem to be blustering their way through the sport and the last few years has seen more and more modern brands infusing your typical golf attire with streetwear elements and new silhouettes, bringing in what seems to be a new age of golfer.

In the present day, whilst on tv, you may see the likes of Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm dressed head to toe in the latest performance wear, adhering to your classic golfing dress code, there is undoubtedly a wave of new influence in which the modern day golfer is stepping away from the norm and really bringing creativity, style and modern expression to their on course fits. It truly is an exciting time to be a part of the golfing space, with the game becoming ever more popular and the culture becoming increasingly more rich and diverse.

There are a few brands really leading the charge on bringing new life to golf fashion, which we are ecstatic to have on site here at Scottdale Golf, pushing boundaries and bringing styles and silhouettes not typically seen at your local course. Malbon Golf is one of those brands. Founded in 2017 by golf and culture enthusiasts Stephen and Erica Malbon, Malbon Golf is a lifestyle brand inspired by the game of Golf, oozing with a cool So-Cal vibe. With its unmistakeable branding and playful curation, Malbon has developed a meticulous following, fuelled by their love of the game of golf and desire to express themselves through what they wear. If that sounds like something you can get behind, Malbon Golf is most definitely one to keep an eye on as they continue to drop incredible garments and collaborate with some of the biggest brands in the industry. If Malbon Golf is something you're interested in, have a look below and get yourself a piece now!

G/FORE are another who're looking to add some flair to the golfing fashion market. Modern design, youthful energy and golfs rich traditions culminate to form the frameworks and personality of the brand. Birthed in Los Angeles G/FORE was conceptualised with a passion for modern design and a love for golf, drawing inspiration from art, architecture and high fashion G/FORE brings bold stand out prints and colourways which really look to disrupt the norm whilst still respecting the sport and its traditions. A perfect example would be their Boro Patch Tech Pique Polo, available now online. Shades of blue set in a patchwork styling with an all over pattern make this something unlike any polo I've ever seen on course for sure. Have a look below to shop our range of G/FORE garments and freshen up your wardrobe.

You may have seen recent FedEx Cup Champion Viktor Hovland enrobed in some statement outfits this past season which definitely divided opinion and caused a stir, that being attributed to trend setting fashion house that is J. Lindeberg. Bright colours and bold prints are staples in J. Lindeberg's wheelhouse and there's not many that do it better. Whilst they do have those plain options that you would normally see around your local course throughout a round, J. Lindeberg's brazen print range and the colourways offered are unmatched. A particular favourite of ours is their Green Valley colourway which can be seen on their recently released Luke zip neck sweater and even through their range of accessories with the Bridger Printed Leather Belt.

Even the likes of Nike and adidas have started to push the boat out in a different sense. Streetwear is part of the blueprint for these two gargantuan brands and they've brought some of those styles and silhouettes through to the course, Nike with their incredibly popular Jordan 1 Low releases and adidas have recently re-released their Samba, Superstar and Stan Smith streetwear silhouettes in a multitude of colourways, both proving incredibly popular throughout the golfing world. Nike have gone one step further however, building on the successes of the last few seasons of Jordan release, recently teasing a Travis Scott Air Jordan 1 Low Golf collaboration which will undoubtedly sell out within minutes when finally released, as golf and streetwear lovers across the globe will be scrambling to get a pair, myself included.

These are just handful of the brands really driving forward the movement to bring new life to game of golf and the fresh cultures that have sprouted through its ever growing popularity. We're thoroughly excited to see how these more eccentric golfing cultures develop, the new eyes they bring to the game and what that'll do to the landscape of golfing fashion moving forward.
