Bob Vokey - Wedge Master

The name of Bob Vokey is synonymous with the production of the very best golf wedges and has been since he joined Titleist back in 1996. Before this life changing move however, Mr Vokey was already a well-respected club designer having opened his first custom club shop way back in 1976. It was here that he forged his formidable reputation which led him to be the personal clubmaster for some of the world’s leading tour professionals.

His growing reputation within the game meant that in 1986 TaylorMade came calling, and he closed his shop to help them in the design of their early metal woods. In 1991 he left TaylorMade to start Founders Club, a company that specialised in the production of metal woods alongside the “father of the metal wood” Gary Adams. In 1996 he joined Titleist to work on the design of the amazingly successful Titleist 975D driver and when they decided to start producing high-performance wedges, Bob Vokey was the ideal choice to take this project forward.

This proved to be an extremely wise decision by Titleist, as Bob’s ability to listen to feedback from tour professionals and turn that feedback into new and exciting designs saw Titleist wedges become the most popular wedges in the game, both with PGA tour players and amateur golfers of all abilities. Bob Vokey wasn't a man to rest on his laurels though, and he combined intense R&D and continual discussions with tour players to create new styles of wedge bounce and wedge grinds. This was a massive step forward from just the one or two options that had previously been available and it enabled golfers of all abilities to now be fitted into the perfect wedges for their individual impact conditions.

Fast forward to today and the Titleist Vokey range of golf wedges has reached legendary status with each new launch met with immense fervour by the adoring golfing public. The amount of wedge and grind options that Titleist now offer is at an all-time high and there is no question that Bob Vokey’s mastery of his craft, and Titleist’s premium manufacturing processes, has made the short game a far more enjoyable part of the sport for rank-and-file golfers.
