Cobra Releases AeroJet

The LTDx range from Cobra took the golfing world by storm last season with the LTDx LS driver consistently ranking as the longest hitting driver in independent testing. The range had a slightly more muted appearance than some of Cobra's recent offerings which also seemed to sit well with the golfing public at large. Cobra have never been a brand to rest on their laurels however, and so the prospect of them releasing a completely new range has had many golfers frothing at the mouth. Well, the wait is now over and the launch date is upon us. The time has come to wipe the froth away and ogle at the superb AeroJet range that Cobra have painstakingly developed.

The format for new driver releases over the last decade has followed the same pattern, regardless of the manufacturer in question. The industry appears to have settled on a standard head, a more forgiving draw biased head, and a low spin bomber head for those golfers lucky enough to possess decent ball-striking and clubhead speed. That same format is followed religiously here and so we introduce to you, The AeroJet (Good at Everything), the AeroJet Max (Draw Biased & Forgiving) and the AeroJet LS (I'm Gonna Drive This Green!).

Lets have a closer look at each model and see what the rather clever Cobra engineers have managed to put under the hood.

Cobra AeroJet Driver

The standard AeroJet driver is the most well rounded of the three models from a performance standpoint, and as a result will be the preferred choice for the largest amount of golfers. If it were a person, it would be highly annoying because this driver is good at absolutely everything. It delivers blisteringly fast ball-speeds with superb impact acoustics and feel. It delivers an extremely high M.O.I which makes it wonderfully stable and highly forgiving and it also delivers stunning looks both when placed behind the ball and resting in your golf bag.

Improving on the lightning ball-speeds that the LTDx produced was always going to take something special, and the PWR-Bridge weighting technology is most certainly that. Based on DaVinci's seminal Bridge design that dates back to 1502, the PWR-Bridge Weighting has been strategically positioned behind the face enabling unrestricted flexibility of both the club face and sole. It also serves to position the CG low and forward, unleashing the fastest ball speeds ever produced. Cobra's PWRSHELL with H.O.T Face technology that has served previous models so well, returns again on the AeroJet driver. Designed using artificial intelligence, this cutting edge design creates a variable thickness pattern that helps the AeroJet deliver more efficient speed and spin at all points of contact on the face. The use of carbon has been increased to create a lighter and stronger chassis enabling the Cobra engineers to redistribute the weight more effectively to improve both the stability and forgiveness of this superb driver.

Cobra AeroJet Max Driver

If you were to stand by the first tee of your local golf course and watch players tee off all day, you can guarantee that the vast majority would hit some form of fade or slice. You would also more than likely witness copious amounts of foul language, wild, angry gestures and a subsequent despairing acceptance that this round would most likely be a repeat of the last one. It is true that for many golfers, the dreaded slice can be relied upon to appear on the course in much the same way that you can rely on the rake to be in the other bunker. It doesn't have to be this way though, not anymore. Cobra have excelled at creating top-level anti-slice drivers for a number of years now, and the AeroJet Max Driver represents another huge advance in that sector.

The Cobra AreoJet Max Driver has two weight ports on the sole of the club, that house one heavy weight and one lighter weight, and the positioning of these weights can be altered to affect the way the club plays. With the heavy weight in the back port, the club with play at its most forgiving, with a fairly neutral bias. Switch the heavy weight to the heel, and the driver then works hard to counteract any slice spin that you may have inadvertantly delivered with your swing, enabling you to find the short grass more than ever before. As with the standard AeroJet, the Max Driver benefits from both the PWR-Bridge & PWRSHELL with H.O.T Face technologies, making this perhaps the hottest draw biased driver of all time.

Cobra AeroJet LS Driver

The Cobra AeroJet LS is the least forgiving of the three new clubs, but it has the potential to deliver the longest drives. It has a more compact look at address that better players generally prefer, although the 457cc overall size of  the clubhead is almost at the maximum 460cc allowed. The LS version has been developed to provide the ultimate in clubhead speed and ball speed, whilst keeping spin levels down. It does this in part through two adjustable front weights on the sole of the head and it is these weights that also allow the golfer to make the driver play either neutral or with more of a fade bias. Anyone that hit the Cobra LTDx LS knows that it was a monster, so the fact that Cobra are reporting significant increases in ball speed in the AeroJet means that this will likely be the longest driver we have ever seen.

As with the standard AeroJet, the LS Driver benefits from both the PWR-Bridge & PWRSHELL with H.O.T Face technologies which, as you can see in the images below, really do seem to improve the way the club performs on every level. If you love hitting the long ball (and let's face it, who deosn't?) then the Cobra AeroJet LS Driver should be a must purchase for you this year.

AeroJet, AeroJet Max & AeroJet LS Fairway Woods

The AeroJet line up continues with a full suite of fairway woods, which much like the drivers, consists of a standard head, a draw biased head, and a low spin head.

Cobra have ramped up the aesthetics across the whole AeroJet range, and as you can see above, the fairway woods are truly stunning. Each features the same technology as its driver counterpart, giving the golfer the chance to choose the ideal head to match their swing and playing characteristics. Both the driver and fairway wood ranges have the adjustable Cobra MyFly loftsleeve, which allows the loft to be altered. There have been significant performance increases when compared to the LTDx range, further evidence that Cobra's new tech is on the money, and further evidence that DaVinci was a rather clever chap. The LS head and the Max head have two adjustable weights which can dramtically affect the way the club will play. The LS can be made either neutral or with a fade bias, whilst the Max can be either neutral or draw biased. Once again the standard AeroJet head will suit the broadest cross section of golfers, and excels in every area of performance.

Cobra AeroJet Hybrid

Completing the range of Metals is the new AeroJet hybrid. The advantage of using a hybrid over a long iron isn't much of a secret these days, they have been a hugely popular choice for well over a decade now in the bags of tour players as well less skilled amateur players. The AeroJet hybrid is a versatile club that blends distance with a high launch to provide more forgiveness on longer approach shots - allowing golfers to hit shots that they never thought would be possible. The PWR-Bridge weighting increases the flexibility of both the face and the sole, delivering more energy at impact and giving shots a much needed boost. Available in five different lofts from 17.° all the way through to 28°, whatever gap you are trying to fill, Cobra have got you covered.

Cobra AeroJet Irons

The iron cub revolution continues apace with the release of the new Cobra Aerojet Irons, which arrive to market absolutey packed full of their latest technologies. Average club golfers can often have a hard time hitting effective iron shots and so Cobra have made it their mission to help in this area any which way they can. The AeroJet irons represent a huge advance over anything that has come before and their sleek and sophisticated silhouette belies the level of technological wizardry housed inside. Almost unbelievably, Cobra have managed to apply the same PWR-Bridge Weighting tech to the iron as they did in the range of AeroJet Metals, quite an astonishing feat! The weight is suspended in soft-polymer which helps to tune acoustics and deliver and pleasingly soft feel at impact.

The Cobra AeroJet irons are long. Really long. Perhaps the most impressive part about the huge increase in ball speed and carry here, is the fact that Cobra have managed to do it without strengthening the lofts over last year's LTDx model. We have gone through a period whereby manufacturers have cranked the lofts down to increase distances, and so it makes a refreshing change to see that the superior performance found on the AeroJet iron has come directly from the new technology. If you want a set of irons that could revolutionise your play from the fairways, then I highly recommend you give these superb irons a try. Cobra have been on a hot streak for several years now and that is most certainly continuing with the release of the AeroJet family.
