TaylorMade Stealth 2 Has Landed

TaylorMade Golf are industry disruptors. They like to shake things up a bit, deliver groundbreaking ideas and shift the norm. The Stealth release of last year was a perfect example of this, with a completely new technology delivering a driver range that would forever change the landscape of driver construction. The distinctive red carbon face of the TaylorMade Stealth was a constant presence at the top of the leaderboards throughout 2022, powering some of the finest players in the world to new levels of success. The Stealth family wasn't just a popular choice in the golf bags of elite players though, golfers of every skill level bought into the concept, and bathed in the joy that the increased performance levels brought. 2023 sees the arrival of the next generation of TaylorMade drivers - the Stealth 2, which, unlike Die Hard 2, is a substantial improvement on the original.

Each new driver release from the major manufacturers is usually accompanied by claims of huge increases in ball speed, and impressive distance gains. Whilst this is still somewhat true with the TaylorMade's new offering, the larger focus for the new family of drivers is just how incredibly forgiving they are. The TaylorMade Stealth 2 family of drivers builds on the speed producing success of the original 60X Carbon Twist Face that transferred energy to the ball so efficiently. Now featuring an advanced version of Inverted Cone Technology, the new carbon face promises to replicate the incredible ball speeds achieved from a centered strike when shots are struck significantly off-centre. The very best players in the world only strike the driver flush out of the centre on a few occasions each round, so for the average player that frequency is significantly lower and makes this change in focus from TaylorMade incredibly important.

In similar fashion to the releases of previous years, the TaylorMade Stealth 2 family of drivers is made up of three different heads, The Stealth 2(Standard), Stealth 2 Plus (Low Spinning) and Stealth 2 HD, with each one offering different performance benefits that will suit different sections of the golfing public.

TAYLORMADE STEALTH 2 GOLF DRIVER

As mentioned above, the standard TaylorMade Stealth 2 driver is the most well-balanced performer of the group and offers an appealing blend of distance and forgiveness. The new carbon face weighs in at just 24g which is 2g lighter than on the original version and it has been designed to have an expanded COR area for a significantly increased sweet-spot and superior performance on off-centre strikes. This superb driver also benefits from Carbon Reinforced Composite Ring that unites the driver into a singular force whilst also freeing up mass that is then strategically positioned to deliver hitherto unseen levels of forgiveness. As you can see from the images above, the aesthetics of the Stealth 2 driver are absolutely on point and it somehow looks even sharper and meaner than its predecessor.

TAYLORMADE STEALTH 2 PLUS GOLF DRIVER

The Plus version of the Stealth 2 is the lowest spinning of the three new drivers and will be the most popular choice amongst the better ball-strikers and higher speed players. It allows these kinds of players to hit high launching, low spinning bombs that travel huge distances and reduce fearsome par 4's to a drive and a short iron. The weight savings created by the 60X Carbon Twist Face has allowed for the use of a 15g sliding weight track on the sole, enabling golfers to fine tune their ball flight preferences. Sliding the weight up towards the toe will provide the Stealth 2 Plus driver with more fade bias, whilst moving it to the heel with deliver more of a draw biased ball flight.

TAYLORMADE STEALTH 2 HD GOLF DRIVER

This is the driver that will garner the most attention from golfers who suffer from the game's most frustrating affliction, the slice. Historically, draw biased drivers have delivered ball-flight correction at the expense of forgiveness, and so it was always something of a compromise to plump for a driver of this type. The Stealth 2 HD driver completely demolishes this rule and this incredible club now delivers the highest M.O.I in the range - a supremely impressive feat! The boffins at TaylorMade have managed to do this thanks to the enormous weight savings created by the full-body carbon construction, which has enabled them to shift the inertia generator closer to the heel. A massive 30g rear weight further optimises M.O.I and increases the overall forgiveness.

All Stealth 2 driver models benefit from the technologies outlined below :-

Carbon Reinforced Composite Ring
The Carbon Reinforced Composite Ring unites the driver head into a singular force and frees up additional mass that has been strategically placed to deliver more forgiveness.

Designed For Speed & Forgiveness
The corrective tendencies of Twist Face™ combined with advanced ICT help maintain ball speed and accuracy on off-centre strikes. A lightweight full-carbon body allows engineers to harvest mass and strategically place weight for optimal launch and forgiveness.

Nanotexture Cover
The 60X Carbon Twist Face is encased by a polyurethane cover, featuring a revolutionary nanotexture technology. The nanotexture cover is used to fine tune launch and spin tooptimise total distance regardless of playing conditions.

Asymmetric Intertia Generator
The Inertia Generator remains the foundational source of refined aerodynamic properties. The result is a slippery-fast head shape that aids in swing speed generation on the downswing for golfers at every level. It is outfitted with a 25g rear weight for incredible MOI and forgiveness.

Thru-SlotSpeed Pocket
TaylorMade's flexible Speed Pocket™ design is engineered to maximise ball speeds and produce additional forgiveness on low-face strikes.

Premium Sound
TaylorMade knew that sound would be a big question mark for many golfers. That's why their team of engineers obsessed over creating the perfect pitch with Stealth 2. They used a combination of curvature, shape, and internal stiffening ribs to finely tune acoustics, delivering a sound profile that is both bright and powerful to match TaylorMade drivers through recent years.

TAYLORMADE STEALTH 2 FAIRWAY WOOD FAMILY

TaylorMade Golf have always manufactured superb fairway woods and this year's Stealth 2 range further cements their legacy in this department. The draw biased head that was sadly missing from the original Stealth range makes a welcome return for 2023 and represents a radical departure from traditional TaylorMade fairway woods. Featuring an eye catching oversized 200cc design, the Stealth 2 HD fairway wood delivers extremely high M.O.I along with a low CG projection which when combined like this, produces performance that is simply off the charts. A low profile face increases confidence and playability and makes getting the ball airborne a far easier proposition than ever before whilst internal heel weighting ensures that any unwanted slice spin will be significantly reduced.

The standard TaylorMade Stealth 2 fairway wood has a lower CG than on the original Stealth, helping it to deliver a more centered CG projection for better performance off the floor without sacrificing any distance. Inverted Cone Technology creates a variable face thickness that has been constructed to ensure that maximum ball speeds are achieved across the whole club face. The Stealth 2 fairway wood looks absolutely superb behind the ball at address and will deliver a mid-high launch with mid-low spin, an ideal combination for the majority of golfers. A 3D carbon crown has allowed TaylorMade to pull mass away from the high-toe area, enabling more weight to positioned rearward for optimal forgiveness.

The final offering in the range is the one I am most excited about. The TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus fairway wood is essentially three different fairways in one attractive package which makes this perhaps the most versatile club ever constructed. A massive 50g sliding weight has been added to the sole-plate of the Stealth 2 Plus fairway, but this time the weight slides either towards the face or away from it, rather than from heel to toe. With the weight shifted to its most rearward setting the club will now deliver a higher launch and increased stability, effectively making it easier to use. When in a centered position, the club will play at its most balanced and versatile and finally with the weight fully forwards, golfers can expect to see a low spinning and more penetrating ball flight. When all these options are combined with an adjustable loft sleeve that allows loft changes of +/- 2° golfers now have the ability to fine tune their ball flight like never before. Another stunning technological advance from the industry disruptors.

TAYLORMADE STEALTH 2 RESCUE FAMILY

Much like the fairway wood range, the TaylorMade Stealth 2 Rescue family sees the return of the draw biased head, giving golfers the full compliment of three alternatives once again. On the standard Stealth 2 Rescue, Centre of gravity is positioned lower compared to the original Stealth Rescue, delivering a more centered CG projection to improve performance on middle-face strikes. Engineers used weight savings from the infinity carbon crown to redistribute mass towards the rear of the club for enhanced MOI and forgiveness. Variable face thickness has been engineered to maximise ball speed across the face while maintaining conformance and improving durability in each individual hybrid.

The Stealth 2 Plus Hybrid features a refined shape, inspired by Tour and preferred by better players and lends itself to enhanced shot making. The compact design offers control and workability similar to irons with the added forgiveness of a Rescue. The Stealth 2 HD Rescue benefits from a slightly larger overall profile with a low and deep CG and it promotes a high launch with easier playability for a wide range of golfers. Higher lofted heads also encourage launch and greater on course success.
