The Callaway Rogue ST Family

Callaway’s annual release of new products follows a slightly different pattern to that of the other major OEMs due to the two distinct ranges of both irons and woods that they have. 2021 was the new range of Epic Woods and Apex irons which means this year is the time for Callaway to replace their hugely successful Mavrik family of clubs. The Mavrik range was wildly popular at launch and remained a favourite choice well into their second year of sale meaning Callaway had a tough task on their hands to try and improve on such a well-loved collection.

Their 2022 offering sees an older name return to the scene as Callaway launch the Rogue ST family of clubs. As with Mavrik, there are several different heads in Drivers, Fairways, Hybrids and irons to choose from, with each one aimed at a different style of golfer. With much ground to cover to introduce them all, let’s get started with a good look at the new Callaway Rogue ST irons.

There are now four different heads to choose from, the Rogue ST Max, Rogue ST Max OS & OS Lite and the Rogue ST Pro. As you might expect the Pro model is aimed at the low to mid handicap section, The ST Max at the mid to mid-high handicaps and the OS & OS Lite at the higher handicaps. The first thing to notice about the Rogue ST range is the much-improved aesthetics with each iron having a much more premium look than that of the Mavrik. The Rogue ST Pro benefits from particularly stunning looks and will surely be one of the standout performers throughout the upcoming season.

Callaway Rogue ST Pro Golf Irons

The Rogue ST Pro Iron is a hollow headed players distance iron that produces incredible performance in a beautifully compact design that could almost pass for a muscle back blade. It has reduced offset and a thin top line that provides the ideal profile for the lower handicap players and allows for excellent workability. The hollow headed construction affords the golfer forgiveness that simply can’t be touched by a bladed iron without sacrificing anything in the way of looks.

Callaway Rogue ST Max Golf Irons

The Rogue ST Max iron is the iron that will suit the largest cross section of handicaps and will be an incredibly popular choice amongst the mid-handicap players. It offers high launch characteristics with mid to low spin that can only serve to increase the distance of your iron shots. Callaway have designed this fantastic iron to ensure that the descent angle will be steep enough to allow your approach shots to easily hold the green.

Artificial Intelligence has once again been used in the design of the new Rogue family of irons and it uses an optimisation formula that is different for each model, to optimise spin, launch and crucially, descent angle. The Rogue ST Max irons also benefit from Precision Tungsten Weighting with 59g of tungsten being used to optimise the centre of gravity – 250% more than used in the Mavrik irons. This huge advancement in technology provides optimal launch throughout the set and increased ball speed with every iron despite lofts that are one degree weaker than the Mavrik irons they are replacing.

Callaway Rogue ST Max OS Golf Irons

Completing the irons line up are the Rogue ST Max OS and OS Lite which have the large head and offer the greatest levels of forgiveness. Aimed more towards the higher handicap both models are supremely easy to launch and with a thick topline, generous offset and a wide sole; all designed to make playing good golf a much easier task. The Lite version as has the same profile and head shape as the standard OS, but it has been constructed with lighter materials to allow golfers that struggle for distance and launch to increase their clubhead speed. The Lite version also has slightly weaker lofts to ensure a higher trajectory is achieved for maximum carry.

The Rogue ST family of drivers also now consists of four models, the ST Max, ST Max D, ST LS and rather excitingly, the ST LS Triple Diamond.  As is the case with the irons, the ST Max is the driver that will suit the largest variety of golfers and offers a high launch with mid spin. The Rogue ST Max will deliver ball speeds that are industry leading, all in a head that is extremely forgiving. A slight draw bias is also built in which will please the considerable number of golfers that have daily struggles with excessive slice spin.

Callaway Rogue ST Max Golf Driver

If a slight draw bias doesn’t seem extreme enough to cure you of your slicing drives, then it might be wise move to invest in the Rogue ST Max D driver. Extra internal heel weighting has been added to provide it with the largest amount of draw bias. It has a slightly more ‘squashed’ profile than the standard ST Max which gives it a larger more confidence inspiring appearance at address. It also has a more upright lie angle which will further increase this club’s anti-slice properties.

Callaway Rogue ST Max Golf D Driver

The Rogue ST LS & ST LS Triple Diamond are both aimed at the better golfers that produce a decent amount of clubhead speed. The ST LS has a 460cc profile and sits beautifully square at address which the low handicappers will absolutely love. If you are after a driver that flights the ball on a low, piercing trajectory with low levels of backspin then this is the driver for you.

Callaway Rogue ST LS Triple Diamond Golf Driver

If you want to launch it slightly higher but really keep the backspin down, then the amazing Triple Diamond head would be a smart choice. Presented in a slightly smaller 450cc head the forgiveness is slightly lower on this magnificent beast than on the other three heads, but if you are a centre striker this has the potential to be a game changer. It has a neutral to slight fade bias and looks truly marvelous when addressing the ball. The triple diamond heads have also been the overwhelmingly most popular choice amongst the Callaway Tour players, with heads of earlier models selling for an absolute fortune when they find their way onto auction sites. Releasing the triple diamond head to retail is a smart move by Callaway, and I would expect this to be an extremely popular choice this season.

The Rogue ST fairway woods have three models available to choose from that follow the same theme as the driver. Callaway have a knack of producing fairway woods that look stunning behind the ball and the Rogue ST range is no different. The ST Max is once again the standard head that will be the mainstay of the range, and the LS version is present for the higher speed players that want to keep the flight down. The ST Max D benefits from internal head weighting, a more upright lie angle and slightly weaker lofts, all of which help to eliminate slice spin.

Callaway Rogue ST Max Fairway Wood

The Callaway Rogue ST Hybrids follow the same path as the irons with four models to choose from. The ST Pro is aimed at the better golfer and is presented with a compact profile that more resembles a fairway wood. This removes the high toe appearance that causes the lower handicapper to be afraid of the ball going left. The ST Max Hybrid returns to the familiar iron-like shape, with a larger head and a slight draw bias built. The ST Max OS & OS Lite have the largest, most confidence-inspiring profile at address and both options provide the largest amount of draw bias.

Callaway Rogue ST Max OS Lite Hybrid

As with the irons, the OS Lite has been constructed with lighter components to allow golfers to increase their club head speed and increase their overall distance. Interestingly, Callaway says that the OS Lite version offers the highest launch but with low spin, which if it manages to do that will be a game changer for millions of golfers. I will be doing some testing on this in the coming weeks and will report back on my findings!

So, there you have it, there is much to admire in this new Callaway Rogue ST range, and I can’t wait to get my hands on them in our superb fitting centre. My search for a completely new set of clubs is about to start and I strongly suspect there may be some Rogue ST items in my bag before the start of the season.
