Collin Morikawa @ The adidas Open House - 150th Open
Whilst at the exclusive "Open House" event created by adidas, especially for the 150th Open, we were lucky enough to get the chance to have a chat with non other than 2021 Open champion Collin Morikawa. Before he began this years battle, we found out how he was feeling ahead of the tournament and got to delve deeper in to Collin as a person by straying away from golf and getting some quickfire personal questions answered as he got involved with a roulette inspired mini golf game featured at the adidas Open House.
Scottsdale Golf (SG): We're here at the adidas "Open House" at the 150th Open championship, and were joined by defending champion Collin Morikawa. How're you feeling? it must be pretty special being here in St Andrews?
Collin Morikawa (SG): Its not just a bit, its very special. First time for me being here, everything that encompasses this week, 150th Open at St Andrews. Its amazing, the ground is really firm, balls are running, your going to see a lot of short shots with the distance that the tee shots are going and the weather patterns but they're probably going to tuck some pins and its still going to be fairly tough.
Setting up to adidas' casino inspired "Roulette at the range" challenge, we tasked Collin to a game of truth or dare on the imitation roulette board. He picked his colour each time and should he guess right and the ball lands on his chosen colour, he gets a truth question, however should he get it wrong we got to ask him a dare question.
SG: Okay for the first dare question, we have Kat (Collin's Fiancé) or dogs. You can only take one away for the weekend, who are you taking?
CM: Oh definitely a dog, I'm sure she wont mind...
SG: Lets not tell your fiancé that!
SG: Truth this time! So our question is, who is the most famous person in your phone?
CM: Probably Tiger, yeah I think that wins.
SG: What's your guilty pleasure?
CM: Ice cream, I dont tend to divulge too much.
SG: Favourite flavour?
CM: Cookies and cream for sure.
SG: If you weren't a pro golfer, what would you be?
CM: I would want to be another professional athlete, I think being an athlete is the best thing in the world. If I weren't an athlete though in real life, I dont know, I'd use my business degree for something. I dont know what it would be but I'd definitely use that for something.
SG: You're a big basketball fan right?
CM: Yeah, I'm a big Lakers fan and the Dodgers for baseball. Yeah if I weren't 5 foot 9 and I was really tall, I would love to play basketball.
SG: What's the most embarrassing thing you have done?
CM: In amateur golf, we used to have long drive contests at every event. I was getting myself and my friends pumped up during one, tee'd my ball up and chunked my driver, I left a huge divot behind the ball. It didn't end up getting past the tee box, and the divot was there the entire week so every time I showed up to the 10th tee, the divot was there. I actually ended up winning that week!

SG: You're from LA, but you live in Vegas. If you were taking us on a night out, where are we going?
CM: Probably Vegas, LA is amazing too but people love Vegas, if you've never been to Vegas you're going to want to go.
SG: Okay, last question. Collin Morikawa the movie, who plays you?
CM: I've no clue, I dont know any actor that looks like me. Were going to have to go and find one, they're hiding somewhere.
SG: What're your acting skills like? Could you play yourself?
CM: Absolutely not, they're terrible, trash.
SG: Hopefully one day we can find one and we get to see the movie at some point.

Unfortuantely, Collin didnt make the cut at this years Open, missing out by two shots, but it was still incredible have the opportunity to speak to a two time major winner and a genuine superstar of the golfing world. Whilst this years Open wasnt to be, there is no doubt that Collin will continue to produce the flawless golf that has brought him so much success at such a young age.
