Brooks Koepka Signs With Srixon/Cleveland

Ever since Nike stopped producing golf clubs back in 2016 Brooks Koepka has been something of a free spirit with his equipment choices, steadfastly refusing to sign equipment deals that would tie him into using a particular brand. Throughout the course of the 2021 season, Koepka used Srixon’s superb ZX7 irons and it would seem that he was so impressed by their performance, that he has finally put pen to paper and signed with Srixon/Cleveland. A four-time major winner including back-to-back victories at the U.S. Open (2017, 2018) and PGA Championship (2018, 2019), Koepka remains one of the best players in the world having reached world number one status in 2018.

We’re extremely proud to have Brooks come on board as our newest Staff member, he’s one of the best players in  the world and brings his major championship pedigree and validation to our brands. We’re excited for Brooks to join the Srixon and Cleveland Golf family and look forward to supporting him out on Tour.”
Lionel Caron - Srixon's Chief Sales and Marketing Officer

Srixon have been making wonderful golf irons for many years now and they consistently produce some of the best looking, best feeling and best performing players irons available on the market. In 2021 the ZX range of irons launched which included the ZX5, ZX7 and more lately, the ZX4 irons, all of which have been met with acclaim from equipment reviewers and the golfing public in general. The ZX7 irons that Koepka has plumped for sees Srixon reposition the mass of the club directly behind the sweet-spot and around the perimeter. This gives the club amazing feel and performance on centered strikes and more forgiveness when the strike is less than perfect. The set features progressive groove styling with the shorter irons benefitting from deeper, sharper and narrower grooves than in the longer irons, supplying high levels of control where it is needed most.

The Srixon ZX7 iron has a new Tour VT design on the sole and there is a visible ridge running straight down the middle of it. This is to provide the ultimate in turf interaction and helps golfers when they have attacked the ball a little too steeply, by preventing the club from digging in excessively. The head is a multi-piece construction to allow Srixon to piece together all the tech that makes this iron such a top performer. There is a forged SUP10 face which produces class leading ball speeds and tungsten inserts in the 3-iron to 7-iron to increase forgiveness and M.O.I. The main body of the club head itself is forged from a single billet of 1020 carbon steel and provides incredible feel and feedback at impact.

Brooks Koepka has also chosen the Srixon ZX5 (9.5°) driver to power his tee shots around the demanding tour courses. The Srixon ZX5 driver is the more forgiving of the two driver that Srixon produce, and is aimed at golfers that want a high performing driver that is easy to hit and difficult to curve. With a clubhead that has been flattened out it is a large profile at address and it is extremely confidence inspiring when placed behind the ball at address. Towards the rear of the head the shape becomes slightly triangular giving it an extremely confidence inspiring profile at address. There is a single sole weight on the Srixon ZX5 driver and it is positioned at the rear of the head to give it a low a deep CG placement. They have also increased the size of the carbon crown which has allowed them to reposition the mass of the driver lower in the head. This increases the forgiveness of the ZX5 and gives it one of the highest M.O.I’s ever seen in a driver.

Srixon have a developed a new energy transfer system for their new range of ZX woods called The Rebound Frame. Behind the initial flex face there is then a rigid section, and behind that there is a second flex point to capture energy that would otherwise have been lost. It is an exciting new technology and promises to deliver exceptional ball speeds especially on centre contact shots. The driver has good levels of adjustability with the loft able to be altered by +/- 1.5 degrees and the swing-weight can be altered via a weight port on the sole which allows the club to be optimised to different feel preferences and shaft choices.

For the scoring clubs Brooks has chosen the superb Cleveland RTX Zipcore wedges in 52°, 56° & 60°. The RTX ZipCore wedge has Ultizip grooves which are another fantastic innovation from Cleveland. By using a special heat treatment process, Cleveland have produced grooves that will remain sharper for longer, thereby giving the wedges much more longevity. The grooves are also both deeper and closer together than on previous models, allowing for two extra grooves on the face. If it’s spin you’re looking for then this wedge is where you will find it!  Although the head shape on the Cleveland RTX ZipCore wedge is designed to appeal to better players, it offers far more playability to golfers of a higher handicap than any wedge of this type has done before.
