Choosing the right set of golf irons is a vital part of improving as a golfer. Irons are the clubs you will hit the majority of approach shots with, and so it is essential to choose the right kind of irons to compliment your game.
A golf iron set usually consists of seven or eight irons, all of which hit the ball different distances due to the changes in loft and shaft length. The lower the number on the iron, the further the ball should travel
(Read More)When choosing a set of irons, it’s vital to pick an iron set that closely matches your skill level, and they broadly fall into one of the following categories: -
• Forged blades and cavity blades are the most beautiful of golf irons and offer the most feel and control. They are also the most demanding to use with poorly struck shots seeing a significant drop in performance. Usually used by professionals and low handicappers
• Hollow or Foam filled irons are a relatively new introduction to the market but have taken the golfing world by storm. The head is slightly larger than on traditional blades, but they do still have a cavity blade-like appearance. That is where the similarities end, though. Featuring stronger lofts and high launching characteristics, the performance of this style of golf iron is simply exceptional with only a slight loss in feel. They are usually used by mid to low handicappers.
• Cast game improvement irons are the category of clubs that are most prevalent throughout the average golfer’s bag. Aimed at low to mid and mid to high handicappers, the club head will be somewhat larger than the blades and offer outstanding performance even on off centre strikes. They are usually the most cost-effective golf irons to buy.
• Super Game Improvement irons offer the most forgiveness of any irons on the market. They have the largest head size to inspire confidence at address and produce incredible distance. They are usually used by mid to high handicappers.
Irons can be bought with either steel or graphite shafts. Steel shafts are available in various weight ranges, and each model of shaft will have different launch characteristics that can alter trajectory and spin. Steel is still the preferred shaft material in golf irons for the majority of golfers unless they are looking specifically for a very light shaft to increase swing speeds and reduce impact vibrations.

TaylorMade Golf was formed in 1998 by Gary Adams when he produced the first-ever metal headed wood, and since that date, the company has become well established as one of the top brands in the golfing world.
Time after time, TaylorMade Golf has shown amazing innovation and brought clubs to market that have completely changed the game.
The R9 driver, released in 2009 was the first driver that allowed you to change the loft and face angle of the driver by loosening a screw on the head and turning the shaft, something you see on nearly all drivers today.
The 2012 RBZ fairway wood with its spring-effect trampoline face set the standard for all fairway woods and the same technology can be seen in all fairway woods to this day.
The 2013 SLDR driver, although not the most forgiving club to hit, completely changed technology in drivers. By moving the centre of gravity forward and down in the clubhead they were able to massively decrease backspin on drives, which allowed the golfer to launch drivers much higher without them being affected by wind. Without that driver we wouldn’t be seeing the 330-yard bombs from the tour players today.
The 2018 P790 was an iron unlike any before it. Combining a head that looked more like a blade than a game improvement iron, it offered incredible performance from such a small package and has been one of the most popular irons in the past few years.
TaylorMade Golf supply a vast range of superb products including drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, driving irons, iron sets, wedges and putters and are used by the best players in the world on all major professional golf tours. Rest assured that whatever golf club(s) you are currently looking at buying, TaylorMade's offerings will be at the forefront of performance, packed with technology and striking looks.
The full range of TaylorMade golf clubs in both right and left-handed can be found at Scottsdale Golf. Whatever your golfing ability, we have the perfect TaylorMade equipment for your game.
